Vince Jones, one of the most recognisable names in Australian jazz kicks off our Jazz Series in March.   A leading vocalist, composer, interpreter and trumpet player, he presents a show packed with his original songs and beautiful contemporary versions of jazz classics.  In April, Way Out West, winners of the 2009 Bell Award for ‘Best Australian Jazz Ensemble’, bring their unique sound back to Tanks having last performed in Cairns in 2009. Not to be missed in May is popular ABC Sydney radio host and musician James Valentine as he presents The Power & The Passion – Standards from the Great Australian Songbook – a collection of instrumental jazz versions of Australian pub rock classics. June sees Jazzgroove Mothership Orchestra return to Tanks celebrating their 10th anniversary, joined by one of the world’s leading young jazz composers, Darcy James Argue and Australian expat pianist Sean Wayland. Elly Hoyt, described as the new rising star of Australian jazz, recently won a Bell Award for Best Australian Jazz Vocal Album and is earning acclaim around the country. She heads to the tropics with her quartet in early August.  Australia’s premier jazz pianist and composer Joe Chindamo takes to the Tanks stage late August after having performed all around the world from New York to Tokyo, captivating audiences with his unique arrangements. Finally, but certainly not least, winner of the recent 2012 National Jazz Awards, Kristin Berardi wraps up the 2013 Jazz up North series. This is an apt way to finish the series, as Kristin performed at one of the first Jazz Up North series, enchanting audiences with her impressive performance.

What our punters say:

“Stupendous value” - “Unbelievable artists” - “Can’t believe the quality of the acts we get for that price!!”
