With their feet planted in the cool school tradition of jazz, Bungalow lays bare their hearts, holding them out for the audience to behold.
With a sound described as introspective, bold and energized, experiencing Bungalow live is highly emotionally engaging. The melodies are often simple, like folk music from the future, yet sometimes complex. The lines twisting and turning as if the band had uncoiled their DNA for the audience to listen to.
Based in Japan, Bungalow comprises pianist, Koichi Sato, bassist, Hiroshi Ikejiri, drummer, Ko Omura, and Cairns-based, National Jazz Awards winner, saxophonist, Mike Rivett. Rivett and Omura both change up the texture sometimes on electronics and Indian tabla respectively.
Be present when the openness and simple clarity of this quartet is balanced by their virtuosity and group interplay, to create musical landscapes that may indeed express the intangible.
